Sinker (die-sink) electrical-discharge machining — a shaped graphite or copper electrode is plunged into the workpiece and spark-erodes its mirror image. The standard route to sharp internal corners, deep ribs, keyways and blind cavities in hardened tool steel, where no rotating cutter will fit.
